Title: Restylane and Radiesse - Post Treatment Care

1
RESTYLANE AND RADIESSE SETTING THE EXPECTATIONS
Dr. Kris Reddy FACS, Board Certified Plastic
Surgeon and West Palm DERMAL Fillers expert,
advises the proper selection and use of dermal
fillers. To have optimal enjoyment of the
treatments, it is important to have proper
expectations and do proper aftercare. RestylanE
and Radiesse are Dermal fillers that are injected
into the skin to soften creases or folds, support
areas of volume loss or contour specific facial
areas.
2
What to Expect During and After Treatments
Local numbing medication may be used to maximize
your comfort during the procedure. Most patients
report a mild discomfort typically associated
with needle injections. You may experience a
mild to moderate amount of stinging or aching
sensation post injection. To ensure an even
correction the physician will massage the area
treated, which may cause a temporary, minimal to
moderate amount of redness to your skin.
3
Bruising at the site of injection is a commonly
reported side effect. To minimize bruising,
inform your provider if you use blood thinners
such as ibuprofen, aspirin, or herbal
preparations prior to your procedure. Temporary
minimal to moderate swelling can be expected,
which should dissipate following injection. Some
patients report dramatic reduction in swelling
hours after their treatment. It is normal to
experience some tenderness at the treatment site
for a few days.
4
Restylane Post Treatment
Cold Compresses (a cloth dipped in cold water,
wrung out, and applied to the injected area)may
be used immediately after treatment to reduce
swelling. Avoid touching the treated area
within six hours following treatment so you do
not accidently injure your skin while the area is
numb. After that, the area can be gently washed
with soap and water.
5
Until there is no redness or swelling, avoid
exposure of the treated area to intense heat (sun
lamp or sun bathing) If you have previously
suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk
that the needle punctures could contribute to
another occurrence. Speak to your physician about
medications that may minimize a recurrence.
Avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal
anti-inflammatory medications, St. Johns Wort,
and high doses of Vitamin E supplements for one
week after treatment. These agents may increase
bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
6
Radiesse Post Treatment
Apply an ice pack or cold compress to the
injection area after treatment to help reduce
swelling. If swelling or redness persists too
long, please contact your physician. It is
normal to feel a firmness in your injection
area for the first few days after treatment. Over
time, the area will soften, leaving you a soft,
natural looking result. Many patients return
to their normal routine/activities immediately
but you should check with your physician for
his/her recommendation.
7
Makeup may be applied shortly after treatment if
no complications are present. Apply makeup
gently, avoiding strenuous rubbing of the
injection area. The injection area may also be
gently washed a few hours after treatment,
avoiding aggressive scrubbing or
rubbing. Sunbathing, or excessive UV exposure
should be avoided until the redness or swelling
have subsided. Immediately report any worsening
or persistent symptoms or side effects to your
physician.
