Planet Poem
  • Here are nine planets that we know.
  • Round and round the Sun they go.
  • Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars.
  • These are the planets near our star.
  • Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus too.
  • Neptune, Pluto, we cant see you.
  • These are the nine planets that we know.
  • Round and round the Sun they go.

14
Solar System Mobile
  • Students will make a solar system mobile that
will show the each planet and their difference in
    size.
  • Students will need
  • Cardboard
  • Compass
  • Pencil
  • Markers/Crayons
  • String
  • Tape/Glue
  • 5 small twigs/Wooden rods

15
  • CONTINUE.
  • The students will use the table below to make
each planet their correct size by using their
compass. They will trace the circles that
represent the planets on cardboard, cut them out,
    and then color them.
  • Mercury 3/8 Saturn 10
  • Venus 7/8 Uranus 4
  • Earth 1 Neptune 3 ¾
  • Mars 9/16 Pluto ¼
  • Jupiter 11

16
Planetary Distance Activity
  • This activity will show the students how far the
    planets are from the sun.
  • Students will need
  • Thumbtacks/Tape
  • Crayons/Markers
  • Scissors
  • A ruler
  • Several sheets of paper
  • As a class the students will draw a picture of
the sun and each planet and also label them. They
will read the table given to them to see how far
from the sun each planet is. They will pick a
point on the wall to be the sun and tack/tape
their drawings. The students will use a ruler to
    measure where each planet belongs.

17
  • Distances of the Planets from the Sun
  • (Table for Activity)
  • Mercury 35,898,000 miles (2 inches)
  • Venus 67,084,000 miles (3 inches)
  • Earth 92,752,000 miles (4 inches)
  • Mars 141,298,000 miles (6 inches)
  • Jupiter 482,546,000 miles (1 foot, 9 inches)
  • Saturn 884,740,000 miles (3 feet, 2 inches)
  • Uranus 1,779,152,000 miles (6 feet, 5 inches)
  • Neptune 2,787,892,000 miles (10 feet, 1 inch)
  • Pluto 3,658,000,000 miles (13 feet, 3 inches)
