By Alexio MosherThere are four middle school
students on the varsity cheerleading squad.
Alexio, Tyree, Sierra, and Savannah. The high
school students are Christina, Angela, Kellie and
drummer, Kara. The cheerleaders head coach is
Lorinda Bartlett and their asst. coach is Helen
Yalch. Their coach, Ms. Bartlett said that the
teams strength was their willingness to try new
things with a smile. The team needs to continue
to work on jumps and synchronizing their
movements. The highlight of the season was
watching the boys and girls stunt together.
Alexio and Sandy do an awesome skate and Aleixo
and Savannah do an awesome chair. On January
27th the cheerleaders competed at the Mason Dixon
tournament. South Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana,
Florida and Kentucky competed in cheer and dance.
Kentucky got fifth place.

New Kerr Hall
By Shane Burton After Christmas, all middle
school and High school teachers and students
moved to the newly renovated building, Kerr Hall.
Everything is new and pretty nice. All teachers
worked hard packing Lee Hall and unpacking in
Kerr Hall. It took a long time to move. They
moved because they needed a nice and fancy school
and not a broken school with many holes in the
wall.
Mrs. Meckes packs up her classroom in Lee Hall
before Christmas to get ready for the move to
Kerr.
2Girls' Mason Dixon
Arts and Humanities
By Bianca Dubree On January 23-27, the KSD
basketball girls played in the Mason Dixon
tournament. The tournament was at the
Mississippi School for the Deaf. Eleven states
came Louisiana, South Carolina, North Carolina,
Kentucky, Virginia, Florida, Georgia, East North
Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama. KSD
won 7th place. They won one game against
Virginia. The girls tried so hard to win. The
team worked hard in the game and to show school
pride. Next year, the Mason Dixon tournament
will be in South Carolina.
By Arielle Plummer Every Friday all KSD middle
school students learn about the Middle Ages time
period and the arts of that time. They are
learning about Medieval times and planning a fair
for May 9, 2008. All middle school students are
learning about the arts, history, church, foods
and dance. They have really focused on the arts,
dance, music, and drama. On May 9th there will
be a Medieval Fair on the soccer field near
Thomas Gym. There will be beggars, food, arts,
history, games, skits, a jousting tournament,
music, dance and booths selling wares.

The Student Council is having a school store
during break time on homegoings. The school store
is a good opportunity to learn real life and
Student Council develops a positive work habit.
The Student Council decided on having a school
store, but times depend on what the middle school
is doing. Workers are Savannah , Chance
, Corey , and Heather . Workers
take that job for two weeks then other kids work
the next two weeks. Students can buy snacks and
school supplies at the School Store.
Interview with Slay about Technology
By Bianca Middle School teacher, Jackie
Slay, was interviewed about the newly renovated
Kerr Hall. Q When we first moved back to Kerr
Hall, how did you feel about all of the new
technology? A The technology makes me feel
wonderful and makes my job easier. I have so
much to learn. Also, I have to keep up with
it. Q What technology improvements to KSD are
better? A Smartboards have been the biggest
improvement. The old way, I had to use a lot of
books but they were not big enough for all of the
classes to see. Now it is a lot easier just to
go to Google then type the name of the picture
you want, then you show it to your class. I also
love the video relay in my room. It saves my time
and trips to upstairs in Kerr Hall or Brady Hall.
I simply call someone and ask a question and
thank the person and hang up. The message board
is okay. I hardly pay attention to it because it
is behind me and I forget it is up there. I only
look up when I want to know what time it is.
New newspaper staff
The two newspapers editors have been chosen for
newspaper club. Bianca and Jacob
are co-editors because Bianca and Jacob had
perfect attendance to newspaper club, positive
attitudes and showed responsibility. They also
completed their assignments. The club meets every
Thursday after school. The newspapers is
published as often as we can according to Mrs.
Meckes.
4Level 6
Jacob, Bianca, Charlotte, Michael, Chance,
Andrew, Savannah, and Arielle were on Level 6 for
the third quarter. On March 3, 2008 the KSD MS
students went on a reward trip to the bowling
alley. Only students who showed good behavior,
are good role models and do not get in trouble
are on level 6. Sometimes when you are on Honor
Roll, you will also be on Level 6. Kids get to
pick where to go as an award!
Level 6 students.
Honor Roll
By Charlotte On February 1,
2008 middle school Honor roll students were
announced. The students kept up their grades and
had a good positive attitude. Thirteen students
made honor roll the second quarter. The students
were rewarded for their hard work by going to
Cicis.
Library
BY Biance The library in Kerr Hall is
totally new. The old library that was in the
center of the first floor was filled in and was
moved to the front left corner. The library is
larger with more book shelves and a
share-a-book reading area. The KSD middle
school students were excited about the new
library. It is fresher than the old library and
students in the library dont bother the high
school classes when they are there like they did
before. Now with the new library it is more
perfect and doesn't bother teachers
instruction. Mrs. Gay says the new library is
better because it has more room and is easier for
kids to look for books and see what kinds of
books they want. There is also enough room for
kids to sit and read books.
Honor Roll Students.
Reading Buddies
By Jacob Mrs. Orberson, Ms. Slay, and Mr.
McClains classes continue to go once a month on
a Thursday to Walker Hall for the Reading Buddies
activities. One class from the high school visit
Ms. Powells class. The students go to model
good reading skills for the younger readers.
They want to encourage young readers to read
books. The students sit in a comfortable
environment. They share a book, discuss it and
share activities.

Recreation Basketball
By Jacob KSD middle school had students
participate in the Boyle County Recreation
basketball league. There were two teams, a 6th
and 7th grade team and an 8th and 9th grade team.
Kevin Hamilton, Drew Meade, and Josh were the
coaches. The players on the older team were
Chance Gillespie, Jacob Meece, Tyler McDaniel,
and Shane Burton. Andrew Redding, Corey Lewis,
Tyler Epley, Valdin Kudic and Jordan Emery were
on the 6th and 7th grade team. The teams played
games and in tournaments. The teams strengths
were teamwork, defense, offense, and rebounds.
The teams won a lot of good games against some
hot competition.
By Shane All seventh and eighth graders
and some sixth grade students worked with a guest
artist January 14-25 at KSD. Ruben Moreno
worked for two weeks with the students to teach
them students and the teachers how to create
animated short films. All students worked in
groups to write scripts. Then they drew
storyboards of the scripts. The students colored
the backdrops from the movies and made their
characters out of clay. The students helped
move the characters and props slightly for each
shot taped on a digital video camera. Mr.
Moreno took the drafts of the movies and will
edit them. The movies will have the students
interpreting. The claymation movies can be seen
at the Kerr Hall Open House on March 27th.
Arielle adds horns to the bull clay character.
Guest Artist, Ruben Moreno
Jacob touches up the script while Valdin and
Shane look over the backdrops.
Three of the claymation characters ready for the
movie.

Peer Pressure
By Andrew Kids try to pressure me into
doing drugs. I always say, NO! I will not do
it. I do not want to die early in my high school
years. I want to live and get my education. I
want to get a good job and live a good life.
Kids will not pressure me about drugs,
girlfriends, homework, class work or school. By
Tyler McDaniel When I was in elementary school,
my friend asked me to steal the teachers pencil.
I first told him, NO! but he continued to ask
me so I did and gave it to him. Do not steal
things for keeps. Please pay for things
yourself. You need to ask the teacher and say,
no to those who ask you to do things you dont
want to do.
