Campaign Background
Since the beginning of the second Intifada in
September 2000, about 456,389 trees have been
destroyed by the Israeli forces.
The East Jerusalem YMCA and YWCA of Palestine are
in the forefront of this effort to KEEP HOPE
ALIVE through the Olive Tree Campaign.
Through National International sponsorships,
olive tree planting will be a sign of solidarity.

Olive Tree Significance in Palestine
In Palestine, the Olive Tree is
An Ancient source of basic livelihood and
nutrition.
An Average Olive Tree produces 9 Kg of Olives.
An average Olive Tree Olives yield 2 liters of
oil.
The Olive Tree is plain and frugal, it grows in
poor soil and yields precious fruit.
It can live up to 1000 years.
Together with the wine and the fig tree, the
olive tree is a symbol of peace, prosperity and
happiness.

During the first season, December 2002-March 2003
Planting took place in the Bethlehem area.
12 fields were located.
2,105 trees were planted.
Sponsorships were received from Australia,
Canada, Japan, Europe, Jordan, the USA.

During the second season, December 2003-March
2004
Planting spread over new areas.
24 fields were located.
3,940 trees were planted.
Sponsorships were received from Australia, Japan,
Europe, the USA.

During the third season, December 2004-March 2005
More areas planted with Olive Trees.
36 fields were located.
6,600 trees were planted.
Sponsorships were received from Australia, Japan,
Peru, Algeria, Europe, the USA.
Preparations for the 4th season underway.
