3Heifer International
- Heifer International is an organization that
works to end world hunger and to save the earth
through the gifts of farm animals and special
training. Instead of providing families in need
with a non-renewable source of food, Heifer
International provides a living loan of an
animal and extensive training in animal care,
community development, and earth-friendly farming
practices.
4Heifer International, continued
- Each family enjoys better health and their
standard of living improves the family then
passes on the gift by giving one or more of the
animals female offspring to other families in
need. These families, in turn, pass on the gift
to another family. So, one gift multiplies
throughout the community.
5Heifer International
- Haylla is our resident Heifer. Her name is
Swahili and means unexpected gifts. -
- She needs to be fed at each meeting, and, at
the end of the Club year, well see just how
surprising she is! - Our contributions will go toward the ark being
constructed by District 13 clubs.
6Box Tops For Education
- The Clip program is a service of General
Mills. This program allows members to earn cash
for a local school by clipping Box Tops for
Education coupons from hundreds of participating
products.
7Women in Distress
- This organization provides support for women
who are unable to remain in their homes due to
domestic violence -- women who are concerned for
their personal safety and that of their children.
GFWC Coral Springs Womans Club has made
donations to the organization including clothing,
holiday gifts, and cell phones programmed to
9-1-1.
8Books From the Heart
- Only new or gently used (must look like new)
childrens books are collected for a joint
project with the Heart of America Foundation.
Books are to be distributed to school libraries
and classrooms or directly into the hands of
children in need.
Books From the Heart This book was donated by
the GFWC Coral Springs Womans Club and the
Heart of America Foundation.
Through December 31, 2008
9Literacy in the Laundromat
- Educational materials are provided for the
children that have to sit at the laundromat for
hours while their guardians are too busy with
domestic duties to watch them. Reading books,
activity books, puzzles, picture books, coloring
books and crayons, card games (Old Maid, Go Fish,
etc.) all of these are included and are fun for
helping to pass time while secretly allowing the
children to learn a little.
10Education is Everywhere
Educational materials are packed in a decorated
tub for distribution to local Emergency Rooms.
This is a spin-off of the Literacy in the
Laundromat Project and includes magazines and
short stories for all ages as well as activities
for children.
11Ladies Exchange
- This is the new name of our book discussion
group an exchange of ideas and opinions wrapped
around books chosen to stimulate our thought
processes.
12Seasiders
- This singing group was formed as a direct
result of the 1995 FFWC Centennial Convention.
Attired in 1895 bathing suits, the singers
entertain at sister clubs, nursing and
convalescent homes, and other organizations.
Donations received for their performances go to
Dollars for Delegates.
13Pillow Partners
- Our Home Life Department sews and stuffs special
pillows for local hospitals. These heart-shaped
and bear-shaped pillows are given to surgical
patients to help in the post-operative period
when painful therapy is often required.
14Covenant House
- Covenant House International is the largest
privately-funded agency in the Americas providing
shelter and other services to homeless, runaway
and throwaway youth. - In addition to food, shelter, clothing and
immediate crisis care, Covenant House provides a
variety of services including medical care,
educational and vocational programs, drug abuse
treatment and prevention programs, legal aid
services, recreation programs, mother/child
programs, transitional living programs,
life-skills training and street outreach.
15Curbsiders
- This group of Club volunteers keeps a section
of Lakeview Drive in Coral Springs litter-free as
a community service of the Conservation
Department.
