Use of ICT in Danish Health Sector

• Because of the Danish Health Data Network, more
  than 4,1 million messages/month are transmitted
  electronically between units.
• Thus the Health Data Network facilitates the use
  of electronic communication in Denmark where more
  than 100 IT systems are present.
• The Health Data Network also facilitates the use
  of HEALTH OPTIMUM services in the Region of
  Southern Denmark

Thrombolysis

• Use video conferences and image transfer of
  CT-scans in the treatment of patients suspected
  of blood clog in the brain.
• Treat patients with thrombolysis within
  recommended timeframe (3 hours).

Why have telemedicine not been implemented at a
large scale?

• Not full control of the infrastructure
• Clinical and management resistance
• Reimbursement issues
• Lack of evidence
• Technical and security problems
• Telemedicine have not been included in the
  strategic planning of the management
• Lack of implemented standards (video conference
  and measurement devices)
• HEALTH OPTIMUM seeks to change some of these
  issues.
