4Background of CBMS Plan
- Communications and Broadcasting
- Increase of satellite communications and
broadcasting service demands in Korea. - Development of the next generation payload
technology on satellite communications and
broadcasting. - Meteorological Observation Demand
- To minimize damage from meteorological disasters
by adequate preparation. - Needs on accurate prediction of local severe
weather activity in Korea. - Oceanic Monitoring Demand
- Preservation of ocean resources by real-time
oceanic information.
5Mission Concept of CBMS
- Accurate observation of local severe weather
activities. - Ocean monitoring around the Korean peninsular.
- Improvement of short/long-term environment
forecasting. - In-orbit verification of developed communications
and broadcasting transponders
6CBMS Meteorological Mission
- High resolution image acquisition
- Offering the special observation mode for local
severe weather watch - Detection of typhoon, heavy rain, air pollution,
yellow sand, natural phenomena, and etc. - Vertical atmospheric measurement by Sounder
7CBMS Oceanic Mission
- Efficient management of sea resources
- Environmental observation around the Korean
peninsular - Ocean color monitoring
- Sea surface temperature measurement
- Data collection of the ocean by means of buoy

13Summary
- The CBMS is the 7th national satellite project in
the series of Korea space development plan. - The purpose of CBMS is
- To fulfill the demands of the public
communication, weather forecasting and ocean
monitoring. - To advance the space technology by utilizing the
experience from Koreasat and KOMPSAT programs. - The development plan is under consideration to
cooperate with foreign space-related companies to
increase the reliability of the first CBMS flight
model.
