of K-12 student enrollment in the Bay Area - 26 of Santa Clara County students are English
Language Learners, constituting the 6th largest
concentration in California - 34 of Santa Clara County students qualify for
free and reduced price meals - 36 of Santa Clara County students are Latino
- 12 of Santa Clara County schools are in Program

3Data Highlights
- 93 of Santa Clara County schools do not offer
arts courses in all four areas (visual arts,
music, dance, theatre) - Students attending high-poverty schools have less
access to arts education than their affluent
peers - Middle and high schools offer more arts courses
and have more arts specialists than elementary
schools - Insufficient instructional time, especially as
related to meeting NCLB compliance requirements,
is a significant barrier to arts instruction at
the elementary level - The number of schools designated for Program
Improvement will increase significantly as AYP
targets increase - Inadequate funding is a top barrier to arts
instruction in Santa Clara County schools
