  • Underlying determinants of poor oral health
  • Prisoners have more decayed but fewer filled
    teeth and fewer natural teeth than the Scottish
    population

    as prisoners

SMOKING AND MOUTH CANCER
  • Mouth Cancer session now included in smoking
    cessation programme and delivered by Health
    Promotion Officer
  • Mouth Cancer Action Month

    smoking and oral cancer

INDUCTION AT HMP SHOTTS

    all Induction sessions

  • Distribution of toothbrushing pack, prison oral
    health leaflet and methadone leaflet (when
    applicable)

  • Sustainable oral health input routinely offered
    at Induction at HMP Shotts

NATIONAL PRISON ORAL HEALTH IMPROVEMENT GROUP
  • Tasked with taking forward the requirement that
    NHS Boards develop and deliver oral health
    improvement programmes for priority groups.
  • Currently developing a baseline needs assessment
    and programme.
  • Evaluation of this project and activities within
    other prisons will form the basis of the national
    oral health improvement programme for prisons
