Back in the day. . .
  • To keep up with friends, you actually had to see
    them.
  • To organize a party, you had to pick up the
    phone.
  • To get a date, you had to have chemistry.
  • Now, thanks to the miracle of online social
    networking sites, you can manage your friends
    without taking your hands off the keyboard.

So what is Facebook?
  • An online directory that connects people through
    social networks at schools
  • Launched to the public February 4, 2004 by
    Harvard student Mark Zuckergerg
  • Has grown to 8.3 million users and is the 11th
    most visited site on the internet
  • Registers more than 5,800 new users a day

  • In September 2005, it launched a service for high
    school students
  • It typically attracts 80 of a schools
    undergraduate population
  • 60 of facebook members log in daily, and 85 log
    in weekly
  • Searches are available

  • If youre in college or youre an alum, you need
    to register with an email provided by your school
  • Free and fast
  • Currently valued at around 100 million

  • Students dont know who might be looking at their
    profile

    not to give out any personal information that
    they want to be public.

  • Decreases genuine human interaction
  • Easy to get addicted and obsessed

  • Personal information listed (identity theft)
  • Anybody can get in there who wants to
