8Travel
By Edna St. Vincent Millay
9Travel
- The railroad track is miles away,
- And the day is loud with voices speaking,
- Yet there isnt a train goes by all day
- But I hear its whistles shrieking.
10Travel
- All night there isnt a train goes by,
- Though the night is still for sleep and
dreaming - But I see its cinders red on the sky
- And hear its engine steaming.
11Travel
- My heart is warm with the friends I make,
- And better friends Ill not be knowing,
- Yet there isnt a train I wouldnt take,
- No matter where its going.
12Miss Pearl
By Angela Johnson
13Miss Pearl
She told immigrant stories, And talked about
growing up in Jamaica when she got sad. She
stayed clear of heavy traffic, And walked down
the dirt back roads After the sun went down. Miss
Pearl would cook all day long, And stay up all
night Feeding me and Walter jerk chicken. She
says leaving Shorter is
14Like leaving Jamaica And her family again. She
says shell move to Atlanta To live with her
grandniece. But shell miss the dirt roads. And
when I tell her She might like the city, She asks
me if I do. But instead I tell her about
growing Up in Shorter.
