Overview of the Project
  • Welcome
  • This serves as an introduction to Region Vs
    development of a region-wide system of providing,
    via CDs and web/Internet access, exemplary
    instructional and learning practices from
    selected adult education and vocational
    curriculum projects.

Benefits of Project
  • In conjunction with a coordinated website, this
    system is designed to provide
  • Anytime, anywhere access of instruction providing
    flexibility to learners for self-directed
    learning.
  • The use of the materials in their work with other
    adult learners provides multiple applications.

    Region V, the following professionals contributed

    Adult Education and Career and Technical
    Education members,
  • Co-Technical Support Institutions of Florida
    International University and Florida Atlantic

  • Screening Best Practices Committee of Region V
    Professionals

Target Populations for Project
  • Decision was reached to target the following
    areas for 2002-2003 
  • ABE
  • Community Education
  • ESOL
  • Family Literacy
  • GED
  • Vocational Ed (Career and Technical Education)
  • Other areas could be added in an update of the
    CD-ROM.

Initial Review Criteria Used
  • Projects were selected to showcase the best
    practices in the following areas
  • Preparation and planning
  • Knowledge of subject matter
  • Classroom management
  • Instructional techniques
  • Assessment techniques
  • Teacher learner relationships.
  • Based on the Teacher Assessment and Development
    System (TADS)

Process of Review
  • Call for proposals and a formal review was
    conducted by best practices committee under
    the auspices of Ms. Carrie Mickey, Dr. Douglas
    Smith, FIU, and the Best Practices Committee
  • Video clips, PowerPoints, printed information,
    and lesson plans were invited and reviewed for
    inclusion.
  • FAU Rating System for Exemplary Projects and the
    TADS criteria were used to review the projects.
  • Matrix was created for selected projects based on
    criteria of review and target population.
  • CD-ROM was designed with a system for locating
    projects by county and by target populations.
    Project map was included.
  • FAQ section was planned.
