General Points
  • Refer also to the Code of Conduct
  • Match Officials should ensure the RFL has their
    up to date contact details
  • Availability information should always be
    forwarded as soon as possible to ALL of the
    below
  • Stuart Cummings (stuart.cummings_at_rfl.uk.com)
  • Ray Tennant (ray.tennant_at_rfl.uk.com)
  • Tony Brown (tony.brown_at_rfl.uk.com or
    brown_anthony_at_sky.com)
  • Julia Lodge (julia.lodge_at_rfl.uk.com )
  • And for Conference/National Youth League/RLC
    National officials to David Lowe
    (david.lowe_at_rfl.uk.com) as well

Appointments
  • For Super League and National Leagues 1 2,
    appointments will generally be issued on the RFL
    website on a Tuesday.
  • Academy appointments will be issued 4 to 6 weeks
    in advance.
  • Appointments should be accepted or otherwise by
    5pm on Wednesdays with Julia Lodge and David
    Lowe (where appropriate). Failure to do so could
    mean your appointment is changed.

During the Week
  • Each Match Official is responsible for their
    personal training
  • Attendance is mandatory at appropriate RFL
    training sessions and meetings. We need emailed
    apologies if you are unable to attend.
  • Contact colleagues on your identified game
  • Full Time Match Officials will contact Touch
    Judges/In-Goals usually by Tuesday evening
  • As previously on all other games Touch
    Judges/In-Goals should contact the Match Day
    Referee
  • Preparation for your appointed match can include
    viewing videos/DVD, review/consideration of your
    own development areas/re-read on-field guidelines
    and discussions with members of the team

Match Day Pre-Match
  • Travel together wherever possible
  • Match day attire should be a suit (RFL where
    applicable) with white shirt and RFL tie
  • Arrive at the ground at least 90 minutes prior to
    kick-off
  • Referees to bring Communications system and help
    with the set up. They must test it early.
  • Safety briefing all appointed Match Officials
    to be present 75 minutes prior to kick-off
  • Touch Judges to check players 35 minutes before
    kick-off
  • Match Officials to warm up as team

Match Day During the Match
  • Adhere to On-Field Policy Guidelines

Match Day Half-Time
  • Leave the playing area together as a team
  • Initially in the changing rooms get drinks etc.
  • Team discussion led by the Referee with
    contributions from ALL OFFICIALS on key aspects
    of the game
  • To include 10 metres, play the ball,
    communication and perhaps particular players
  • Discussion needs to be honest and beyond the
    level of going well
  • Generally avoid a focus on a particular decision

Match Day Full Time
  • Leave the field together
  • Warm Down
  • Confirm match details score, dismissals,
    on-field reports and sin-bins
  • Referees to ensure communications systems are
    collected and returned
  • Opportunity for initial thoughts/discussions
    between the team possibly highlight incidents
    to look at on video/DVD
  • Avoid becoming isolated in the changing
    room/tunnel areas. Leave this part of the ground
    as a team

Match Day Post Match
  • Referee to phone in match details with PA Sports
    (Super League, National Leagues)
  • Match Officials to complete reports and Team
    Sheets as appropriate for the RFL after agreement
    regarding relevant information
  • Referees to complete self-reviews for Stuart
    Cummings/Tony Brown/Ray Tennant/Mentors
  • Touch Judges to complete self-reviews using
    standard forms which are as per last season
  • Inform Match Officials coaches as soon as
    possible regarding match day incidents that could
    be an issue NO SURPRISES!
  • Referees to report problems regarding
    communications kits to Stuart Cummings by Monday
  • Discussion between Match Officials coaches,
    Referees and Touch Judges will take place as
    appropriate
