Printed and pictorial materials are shown in
three formats, from low to high resolution
- .gif (Graphics Interchange Format)
- .jpg (Joint Photographers Expert Group)
- .tif or .tiff (Tagged Image File Format)
3Save displayed images
- Place the cursor over the image
- Depress the mouse button (right button on PC
mouse) to display a menu - On the menu, select Save image as or Save
picture as. - In the box that appears
- Select where you want the image to be saved
- Give it a name meaningful to you and click the
Save button
4Save linked images (e.g. TIFF format)
- Place the cursor over the link to the TIFF file
- Depress the mouse button (right button on PC
mouse) to display a menu - On the menu, select Save target as or save
link as. - In the box that appears
- Select where you want the image to be saved
- Give it a name meaningful to you and click the
Save button
5Print smaller photographs (to fit on one sheet of
paper)
- Open your graphics software
- Select File-Open and retrieve the image from
where you saved it - Check the size of the image against the item
record. Adjust if necessary. - View image dimensions and layout in Print
Preview. Change if necessary. - Print
6Print large photographs (requires multiple sheets
of paper)
- Open your graphics software
- Select File-Open and retrieve the image from
where you saved it - Check the size of the image against the item
record - Crop and save the image in sections
- To find out the size youll need for each
section, do some arithmetic - turn on rulers and any available guide grids
- First section
- Select Edit-Copy
- File-From Clipboard
- Save (File-Save As)
7All together now! (larger prints)
- Print each section in order for easy assembly
- Overlap the sections and glue together
8Maps Two basic formats available in high
resolution
- .gif (Graphic Interchange Format)
- .tif or .tiff (Tagged Image File Format)
- Converted from .sid (MrSID) format
9Maps (save medium size (.gif), as seen in the
zoom view panel on the navigation page)
- Place the cursor over the map within your web
browser window - Depress the mouse button (right button on PC
mouse) to display a menu - On the menu, select Save image as or Save
picture as. - Select where you want the map to be saved
- Give it a name
- Check/change the extension (it must be .gif )
- Click the Save button
10Maps (save large maps)
- Download MrSID file
- Save target as or Save link as
- Give it a name
- Check the extension (.sid)
- Click the Save button
11Maps (print large maps)
- Open the map in the MrSID viewer (File-Open )
- Choose File-Export. (or click the small TIFF
button.) - In the box that appears
- Click Export to and check the location in the
Save in box - Click Save
- Click Go
- Open your graphics software
- Select File-Open and retrieve the map from where
you saved it - Check the size of the map against the item
record. Adjust if necessary. - View map dimensions and layout in Print Preview.
Change if necessary. - Print.

- Lowest file size
- Can not save and replay
- QuickTime (Apple/Mac player .mov)
- Medium file size
- Can be saved and played later
- MPEG or .mpg (Windows Media Player)
- High quality, larger file size
- Can be saved and replayed

mouse) to display a menu - On the menu, select Save target as or save
link as. - In the box that appears, select
- where you want the film to be saved
- give it a name meaningful to you
- click the Save button
- Open appropriate media player, locate file and
play (open) or double click on the file

- Large file size
- Can be saved and replayed

recording - Right click on mouse to display a menu
- select Save target as or Save link as.
- In the box that appears, select
- where you want the sound recording to be saved
- give it a name meaningful to you
- click the Save button
- Open appropriate media player, locate file and
play (open) or double click on the file
