A person needs 5 litres of water a day for
drinking and cooking 25 more litres are needed
to stay clean
Women and children in the developing world can
travel an average of 10-15 km to get water. It
is not uncommon for them to spend 4-5 hours a
day on hauling water
70 of the Earths surface is covered in seas and
oceans
The percentage of the worlds water which is
drinkable is the equivalent of a teaspoon from
a 450 litre barrel

1.4 billion people lack access to safe drinking
water
2 billion lack access to effective sanitation
25,000 children die each day from water related
diseases
Over 80 of the diseases in developing countries
are related to poor drinking water and sanitation

The average Canadian family uses 350 litres of
water in a day and in Europe, 165 litres. In
Africa, the average is 20 litres.
Only 3 of the Earths surface is freshwater, of
which half is held up in glaciers and icecaps
4.8 billion gallons of bottled water were sold in
1996 and sales of 37 billion gallons are
expected by 2006

O God pour out on us the water of life That we
may quench our thirst And draw our strength from

struggle daily for clean water. So that all may
be Refreshed and renewed By your love. Amen
