Capability Based Planning
  • Capability-Based Planning is the process to
    determine the right blend of plans, people,
    equipment and activity to optimize the capacity
    of the DND/CF to achieve its assigned duties.
  • The CID will inform senior management on how
    projects are addressing capability gaps in the
    department and which capability areas need to be
    addressed.

Strategic Capability Investment Plan (SCIP)
  • The SCIP represents a comprehensive roadmap for
    ensuring the Canadian Forces (CF) have the
    capabilities they need in the future.
  • The CID will provide the information necessary
    for developing the SCIP Annexes.

Project Approval
  • Standardization of departmental approval
    documents
  • One-stop-shop for all project approval
    documents
  • One repository of information

Project Closeout
  • Project Closeout is the process for completing
    projects using Initial Operating Capability (IOC)
    and Full Operating Capability (FOC) concepts.
  • The CID is used to produce the IOC and FOC
    certificates, Project Closeout Checklist, and to
    track projects in E Status (Effective Project
    Closure).

Lessons Learned Database
  • Prior to the CID, Lessons Learned were collected,
    at the end of the project, in the Project
    Completion Report (PCR).
  • The CID is used to collect Lessons Learned
    throughout the life of the project.

Cycle Time Reduction
  • ADM Mat has committed to reducing the life cycle
    of a project - SS (ID) to Project Closeout - by

  • The CID tracks milestones information at each
    project approval phase.

Program Project Integration
  • The Defence Planning Management (DPM) system
    provides a management framework to allow the
    DND/CF to plan, manage, monitor and report from a
    program perspective.
  • The Material Acquisition Support (MAS) Desktop
    is a web based knowledge repository that provides
    the most current acquisition and support
    information for all DND/CF.
