4Genesis 8.1
- "But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals
and all the domestic animals that were with him
in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the
earth, and the waters subsided. . . ."
5But God remembered Noah
- The Context
- Gen 6.5 "Yahweh saw that the wickedness of
humankind was great in the earth, and that every
inclination of the thoughts of their hearts was
only evil continually."
6But God remembered Noah
- Gen 6.5 indicates that God recognized that human
ways, beginning with their thoughts were "only"
evil.
7But God remembered Noah
- Gen 6.6 "And Yahweh was sorry that he had made
humankind on the earth, and it grieved him to his
heart."
8But God remembered Noah
- The word "sorry" invokes the image of God who has
given "freewill" to humankind only to find that
humans have betrayed God's own trust in them. The
"grieving" shows that God is not a cold and
calculating God, but one who feels the pain of
human sin.
9But God remembered Noah
- Gen 6.7 "So Yahweh said, "I will blot out from
the earth the human beings I have created -
people together with animals and creeping things
and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have
made them."
10But God remembered Noah
- Gen 6.7 "So Yahweh said, "I will blot out from
the earth the human beings I have created -
people together with animals and creeping things
and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have
made them." - God's plan to remedy the situation in Judgment.
11But God remembered Noah
- Gen 6.8 "But Noah found favor in the sight of
Yahweh."
12But God remembered Noah
- Gen 6.8 "But Noah found favor in the sight of
Yahweh." - Noah is here ranked with Moses, the only other

the sight of Yahweh."
