Purpose of the Study

• To asses current use of technology
• To assess elementary teachers training needs

Computers are prevalent in elementary schools

• Teachers use them, but mostly for administrative
  tasks instead of curriculum integration.
• Staff development courses only reinforce the
  administrative use.
• Majority of classes offered were on word
  processing.

Recommendations for schools

• Offer staff development courses in
• curriculum integration
• presentation software
• Internet research
• CD-ROM software
• Follow-up studies conducted to assess future
  technology training needs

Integrating Technology barriers

• Not having enough computers.
• No reward for teachers making the extra effort to
  integrate technology
• No training to support their effort.

Resolutions

• Offer teachers summer courses to enhance the
  technology integration.
• Reward teachers for taking the training courses
  with financial incentives.

Conclusion

• To overcome problems with staff development
  courses, schools may enlist the help of their
  newest teachers (US!) to implement the technology
  role in education and bring in innovative ideas
  for using technology in the classroom.
• With the right training, all teachers can enhance
  their instruction with computers. The students
  will be the beneficiaries!
