The ultimate goal of change is when people see
themselves as shareholders with a stake in the
success of the system as a whole with the pursuit
of meaning as the elusive key Michael Fullen
4- We would argue that it is impossible to develop a
results orientation unless we are clear about the
core of the enterprise (mission), about the kind
of district were seeking to become (vision), and
the attitudes, behaviors and commitments we need
to promote, protect and defend (values). DuFour
and Eaker
5- Improve effectiveness (achieve the vision,
mission, strategic goals) and efficiency (faster,
eliminate problems and with fewer resources) by
moving our school district from where it is to a
position of excellence through visionary
leadership, systems-thinking and stakeholder
participation
6High Cost of Non-Quality
- Typical career criminal causes 1.3-1.5 million
in external costs - Heavy drug user-370,000-970,000
- High School Drop-out-243,00-388,000
- Overall estimate of saving one high risk youth is
1.7 to 2.3 million - (Byrnes Baxter, 2006)
7Compelling reasons to continuously improve our
schools
- Dropouts make up half the heads of households on
welfare (ETS, 2003) - Dropouts make up half of the prison population
(ETS, 2003) - 85 of juvenile offenders are illiterate
- 1/3 of public school students drop out nationally
- A male high school drop-out contributes 30,000
less in taxes over his lifetime
