• Detailed research proposal to LREC
• Identify a sponsor
• University drug company RMG Trust
• Guarantor for research
• Provides indemnity to insure against adverse
  events
• Identify host organisation(s)
• Monitors progress made

Protecting patients and the public

• Each sponsor and host organisation
• Maintain project databases
• Monitor
• Ethics approval sought/granted
• Financial probity planned/maintained
• Human resources
• honorary NHS contacts for researchers not
  employed by NHS
• Estates and facilities
• NHS property used only with explicit agreement

resources

• Non-research NHS staff not involved without
  explicit contractual agreement

TS PCT RMG

• Supporting the four PCTs in Somerset
• Has long-established research management
  procedures and experience (approved by DoH)
• Act as research sponsor for all non-commercial
  research activity
• Provides support in this new and evolving area of
  governance
