Title: Time Management

1
Time Management
  • Learn to make the most of your time.

2
Time as a resource.
  • Time is a unique resource. It cannot be
accumulated like money or stockpiled like
materials. We are forced to spend it whether we
like to or not, at a fixed rate of 60 seconds per
minute! It cannot be turned on or off. Once it
    is spent it is irretrievable.

3
Time Management
  • Assuming an average life expectancy of 75 years,
each of us has approximately 27, 375 days in a
    full life-time.
  • That translates into about 657 000 hours.
  • How easy it is to waste an hour, or to have one
of those precious hours wasted by someone else!

4
Time Management
  • Like other resources, time can be managed or
mismanaged. Often we are frustrated by the lack
of time available to us each day to do the things
we want and need to do.
  • In any case, it is not really time that requires
management. Rather we must find ways to manage
ourselves in respect to the clock.
  • We must do this while remaining accessible,
caring, and approachable. That is a challenge!

5
  • Time Management is setting and following a
schedule of studyin order to organize and
prioritize your studiesin the context of
competing activities of work, family, etc.
  • Guidelines
  • Monitor your time
  • Reflect on how you spend your time
  • Be aware of when you are wasting your time
  • Know when you are productive

6
Where do you need more time?
  • TASK 1Write down a list of some of the
situations in your life where you feel you need
more time. What things would you like to have
    more time for?

7
Time Wasters
  • TASK 2Identify the time wasters in your daily
life. Time wasters are things/distractions that
interfere with completing tasks that you really
    need to complete.

8
Potential Time Wasters
  • Examples of time wasters watching TV, using the
    computer/internet (including technology
problems), phone calls, chatting, social life,
waiting in lines, day dreaming, procrastination,
shopping, napping, starting but not finishing
tasks, inability to say no, travel, etc.

9
Strategy
  • What strategies will you use to make sure you
dont let time wasters interfere with things
    that have to be completed?
  • See the Time Management Hand-out for five
strategies that will work. All you need is a
    little self-discipline and motivation.
