Sindhs Contribution
  • In 2005-06 Sindh produced 982,035 million cubic
    feet (MCFT) of gas.
  • Sindh consumed only 461,779 MCFT, which is less
    than 50 of its production.
  • Hence over 50 of the gas produced by the
    provinces was used out side the province.
  • In 2005-06 Sindh produced 13.3 million barrels
    of oil having value about 91 billion rupees.

  • Out of 11,613 employees in SSGC and SNGPL,
    Sindhs share was 3,613 (including 1,940 from
    Karachi) whereas Punjabs share was 5,454.

  • Major oil and gas producing areas such as Badeen,
    Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, Jamshoro, Dadu,
    Larkana/Qambar, Sanghar are completely under
    developed and communities surrounding the oil and
    gas field live in primitive ages.
  • According to Human Development Report of UNDP
    (2003) Badin, the major oil producing district
    ranked at 60th out of 91 districts in country.
  • Only 3 districts of Sindh (including Karachi and
    Hyderabad) found place in top thirty districts of
    country on HDI.
  • The same report placed Rural Sindh lowest among
    all urban and rural areas of all provinces ranked
    on HD Index.

  • Social Policy and Development Centre (SPDC)
    annual report of 2001 Social Development in
    Pakistan-Growth, Inequity and Poverty mentions
    that 50 percent of districts of Sindh (all from
    rural Sindh) were in high deprivation category
    and 49 of rural population was under high
    deprivation.
  • ADB report Poverty in Pakistan Issues, Causes
    and Institutional Response (2002) mentions Rural
    Sindh as the poorest area with estimated poverty
    at 52.2 and Urban Sindh as the least poor at
    14.9.
