Grading Policy
  • I will give you the better of
  • Grading on a curve - 10 As, 20 Bs, etc.
  • Grading on an absolute scale - 90-100 is an A,
    80-90 is a B, etc.
  • Note that this is different from what is stated
    in the syllabus
  • Throughout the course I work with numerical
scores, combining them at the end

9
Regrading Policies on Homework and Exams
  • All requests for regrading must be done in
writing, and within one week of the time the

How I conduct class
  • No required attendance
  • There is no such thing as a dumb question
  • Relaxed classroom manner - I hope for lots of
    give-and-take between us
  • Dont be misled by this! I do expect you to
    learn statistics well!

14
What is this course really like?
  • It is a tough course!
  • Requires an integration of mathematics,
    statistical concepts, and computers
  • Long homework assignments
  • The course is always building on itself - get
    behind and you are dead!
  • You may be lulled by the first few days of the
course, which are a review of the material from
    STAT 23

15
How can you do well in this course?
  • KEEP UP!!!
  • I recommend a three-part approach to each class
  • Read the assigned material before coming to class
  • Come to class, take notes and ask questions
  • As soon as you can after class, review and
integrate your readings and notes. Ask any
    additional questions the next day.
