What is United Nations? In 1945,
representatives of 50 countries met in San
Francisco USA at the United Nations Conference
on International Organization to draw up the
United Nations Charter. It was ratified by China,
France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the
United States and a majority of other
signatories. As a result, the United Nations
officially came into existence on 24 October
1945. The United Nations has been working with
international leaders in three major areas -
Human Rights, Peace Keeping, and Sustainable
Development. In September of 2000 at the
Millennium Summit, the largest gathering of world
leaders in history, adopted the UN Millennium
Declaration, committing their nations to a new
global partnership to reduce extreme poverty and
setting out a series of time-bound targets, with
a deadline of 2015, which have become known as
the Millennium Development Goals.

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are the
world's time-bound and quantified targets for
addressing extreme poverty in its many
dimensions-incomes, poverty, hunger, disease,
lack of adequate shelter, and exclusion-while
promoting gender equality, education, and
environmental sustainability. They are also basic
human rights- the rights of each person on the
planet to health, education, shelter, and
security. Millennium Development Goals (MDGS) is
a shared vision among all international leaders.
Because of these goals, they all know what
development is about and they all know what needs
to be done.

What is United Nations Association? We are a
peoples' movement in support of the United
Nations.          Inspired by the opening words
of the United Nations Charter "We the Peoples",
the World Federation was created in 1946 - one
year after the establishment of the UN. Today,
it has become a global network of hundreds of
thousands of people linked together through 
United Nations Associations in over 100 member
states of the UN.    Its networks enable people
to connect with each other on critical global
issues affecting us all, from peace and human
rights to the spread of democracy, equitable
development, and international justice.

Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France,
Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary,

Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Netherlands,
Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia,
Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden Switzerland,
Turkey and United Kingdom.

What is UNA USA? UNA USA is an independent,
non-partisan organization of volunteers whose
primary focus is to inform and educate the people
in United States about the work of the United
Nations and its subsidiary agencies. There are
175 chapter in most every of the 50 states.
This preeminent citizens organizations
consists of a network of 175 chapters and
divisions, over 30,000 volunteers, and an
outstanding professional staff with offices in
New York and Washington, DC.

UNA USA devotes to shaping an agenda for a
stronger more effective United Nations which will
improve the lives of people throughout the world
and to enhancing US participation in
international institutions. UNA USA provides
information for students, scholars, Congress and
the media.

What is the United Nations Association of
Dallas? The United Nations Association of Dallas
is the local chapter of UNA USA and involved in
numerous projects including Global Classrooms,
Millennium Development Goals, Human Right Day,
Student Alliance groups in college, Youth
Professionals (YPIC) and Womens International

What are the Going Global with UN videos? UNA
Westchester Chapter created the Going Global
with UN videos in 2005, which contains 26
half-hour videos covering the work that the UN
has been doing since 1945 in the following
areas Richland College with the support of the
LeCroy Center for Educational Telecommunications
and United Nations Association of Dallas brought
the Videos to Dallas. Dallas is the only second
city to broadcast the videos in the United States
after New York, the producer and Dallas is the
first city in the world to have the videos on
line.
