Title: Shadwell Primary School
1Shadwell Primary School
'Broadening Horizons'
2What is pupil voice? What does it mean?
3- Pupil voice is when the children in our school
-
- ask for something
- want to change something
- want to improve something
- AND MAKE IT HAPPEN
4- How do we do this?
- Firstly, we have weekly
- class council meetings.
- At these meetings the class
- asks for things they need
- and discuss
- what they want to change
- or improve in their school.
5- How do we do this?
- Secondly, we have fortnightly
- school council meetings.
- At these meetings School Councillors share the
ideas from their classmates, - discuss whether they are possible,
- then decide how to make them happen and who could
help.
6- How do we do this?
- Finally the School Councillors
- tell their class
- what was discussed and decided.
- They also display the minutes
- of their meeting on their notice board
- and give a copy to the governors and headteacher.
7What have we made happen? What have we improved?
What have we changed?
8School Council have a budget.
This helps us make things happen.
Each class has given us a wish list. Now we need
to decide what to buy.
9This is the REAL NEWS team!
We wanted to let people know about the great
things we do in school, so we now have a school
newspaper run by the children.
10We got bored at playtime so we bought
some playtime markings.
11These are the markings on the KS1 playground
12The children asked for a Trim Trail. It cost
lots of money, so the PTA used all of their
fundraising to pay for it. Look what we got!
This is our Trim Trail
13We asked for a place to sit quietly
so the PTA bought some benches.
14We want to help in school. This is one of our
playleaders (class 5) teaching KS1 new games
to play.
15Buddies
Each person in Class 6 has a Class R child that
they look after. They decide how to help them at
playtimes and learn new routines.
16We like tables to be clean at lunchtime. We
wanted proper cutlery and a choice of food.
Changes have been made and we now help set
up. Lunchtimes are much better.
17School dinners are healthy, but the packed
lunches some children brought in were not. We
felt this was unfair, so we wrote a Healthy
Packed Lunch Policy and gave a copy to each
family.
18School councillors now carry out spot checks.
They look at the packed lunches children have
brought in and give each child a certificate,
that tells them if they have achieved the
Healthy Packed Lunch target.
19We sometimes run our own assemblys!
20We want to make our school much greener.
We try to remember to turn off the lights.
21We recycle paper.

- improvement.
