Title: Wyoming Broadband Gap Analysis

1
Wyoming Broadband Gap Analysis
  • Work In Progress
  • 12/1/2006

2
Agenda
  • Our goals for todays review are to discuss
  • Project Goals
  • Online Maps and Reports
  • Updates for 2006 study.
  • Status of information receipt and updates

3
Definition of Study-no changes
  • Goal of study is to determine the cost of
terrestrial broadband technologies in a Broadband
    Gap Area
  • Technologies being compared
  • Hybrid Fiber/CoaxCable
  • Fiber/Copper DSLAMTelco
  • Fixed WirelessWireless
  • Satellite
  • Broadband capacity is defined as at least 1
    Mb/Sec downstream and 256 Kb/Sec upstream using
technologies currently available to providers in
    State of Wyoming
  • Unit of study is housing units within eligible
    Census Blocks
  • We will exclude Census Blocks in Yellowstone,
Grand Teton and John D. Rockefeller Memorial
    Parkway

4
Online Maps and Reports
  • Developing an online tool that will help answer
    questions posed in the past.
  • What areas are broadband served?
  • What is the investment across technologies in an
    area?
  • Who are the providers in an area?

5
Online Maps and Reports
  • As well as other questions
  • How much is federal land?
  • Show broadband service in terms of County, Zip,
    Urban-Rural or Legislative boundaries
  • Fiber routes-interstate and intrastate.
  • Medical Infrastructure
  • Unserved Housing Units by School Districts
  • Unserved Medical Facilities
  • Onscreen Demo
  • Report Demo
  • Providers within Census Block
  • Augmentation Investment Estimates by CB

6
Updating the Study Tasks Completed
  • Sent out data requests (8/25), have had follow up
meetings, phone calls and emails with providers
  • Compiling data and putting together engineering
review to reflect cost changes from prior year
  • Submitted to WTC information on Rights of Way
    responses

7
Data Request - Progress To Date
  • Data requests were due 10/15/2006
  • Signed and distributed NDAs as requested
  • Thirty-eight DR sent out - to date
  • Received 7 in various stages of completion
  • Awaiting 8 from others

8
Data Requests
  • Notable developments
  • Some providers are providing digital CAD
information to improve accuracy of broadband
    boundary
  • Some providers are providing fiber maps within
    their service territory.
  • In both cases, maps are generalized to protect
actual fiber node and route location.
  • Some wireless providers are providing more
    detailed coverage information to generate
    accurate coverage viewsheds

9
Next Steps
  • Conflate Engineering/Cost Responses
  • Updates cost inputs and service areas for 2006
  • Re-run model to get 2006 estimates
  • Revise summary form
  • Updating boundary and served area information in
    GIS
  • Develop Process and Location to Host Online
    Materials and information
