Award categories Most innovative fundraiser What
makes your fundraising method a cut above the
rest? But be careful, are your ideas too
ambitious to implement? Raised the most
awareness Have you communicated to an outside
audience about your fundraiser, and the Wings of
Hope Charity, through posters, pamphlets or even
appearing in the local news? Dont make the
headlines for the wrong reasons! Best
presentation Did your snapshots project, and semi
final presentation grab the attention of the
panel? Was your delivery powerful and dynamic?
But, be sure to be concise and to get your point
across Raised the most funds Have you exhibited
powers of negotiation and initiative? Bear in
mind that this award shall only be given to those
who have demonstrated a substantial element of
endeavour Best Overall Have you got that
wow-factor? Remember that you should try
to excel in all fields, and not narrow your focus
to one award. The judges will be deciding which
entrants win specific awards

What you have to do Between October 19th 08 and
February 22nd 09 is your fundraising time Be as
cool, creative and crazy as you like. Here are a
few ideas to help you get off the
ground Please be mindful of health and
safety and keep your WOHAA liaison teacher
involved. Also make sure your fundraising is
feasible and can be done before the Snapshots
project deadline For more information on this

  • Execution of ideas
  • It is important to have regular team meetings to
springboard new ideas and to monitor progress
  • It could be useful if team members had specific
    roles treasurer, publicity, logistics etc.
  • Keep the communication going within the team,
and with the liaison teachers e-mails, notices
    in pigeon-holes, phone-calls, coffee mornings,
breakfast meetings, training sessions down the
    gym !
  • When planning for your fundraising event(s) you
may encounter some disappoints, e.g. someone who
has promised to arrange a DJ for a school disco
has had to cancel at the last minute, or
something was too expensive to organise. In order
to minimise these, you should keep a record of
your activities this will also help you with
    your Snapshots project
  • Throughout the process there will (hopefully) be
a lot of petty cash flowing. How could you handle
this? Open a bank account? Have a cash box?
  • It would also be good to publicise your
fundraising event (s), at school, in your
community and maybe even in the national press

8
Skills workshops PricewaterhouseCoopers, one of
our main sponsors, have designed some skills
workshops just for you These skills workshops

should really make the effort to attend them.

university applications and interviews It will be
very useful for you to attend these workshops.
Check out the website and your e-mails for
details of the workshops. Availability is on a
first-come-first basis

Fundraising During your Fundraising Have a
laugh, be creative and enjoy yourselves Make
sure you take lots of photos, and keep the funny
ones for the Snapshots project
10
Snapshots Project Feb 22nd 2009
We want you to snapshot all your highs, your
lows, your team dynamics, your fundraising
activities and the skills you have learnt and
developed through this project. Again, this
project can be as inventive as you like, be it as
a documentary, a video diary, a booklet, a
PowerPoint presentation or even as a song or rap
- unleash that creative side! You will also need
to get your teachers and parents to write
reference letters for your group detailing
their experience, how you have developed and what
you thought about the Wings of Hope. These will
need to be made out to Mrs. Rajni Sriram FRSA at
the address below Ensure that when you send in
your project, you also send in a cheque made
payable to the Wings of Hope, to this
address Wings of Hope, Supreme House, 12 Iron
Bridge Close, Great Central Way, London, NW10 0UF

Snapshots Project Feb 22nd 09contd
It is very important to meet this deadline,
February 22nd 2009, as it will also form part of
the judges decision. Also, we love looking at
your pictures of Fundraising. If you could send
us 10 good quality pictures of your fundraising
activities, then they could be used on our
marketing material. Please send these pictures
in a zip file, so that they do not clog up our
inboxes! Alternatively, we may set up a public
domain website which you can upload your pictures
onto. Watch out for e-mails about this. After
the judges review these, semi finalists will be
invited to the House of Lords to give a
presentation to our Judging Panel
12
Semi final at the House of Lords in March 2009
  • We thought it would be cool for you to see the
House of Lords in action, and so we have arranged
for you, as a token of our appreciation, to get a
    personal tour
  • After that you will be invited to give a small
presentation to our guest panellists high
    profile individuals from business, sport,
politics, and journalism (check out the panel on
    our website)
  • You should aim to deliver a 5 minute presentation
to our panellists, about your team, how you
performed, your fundraisers, and what you got out
    of it
  • Panellists will then have a 2 minute QA session
    with you about your project
  • The panellists have been invited specifically
because they have been successful in their chosen
field this is a unique opportunity for you to
interact and get tips from our special guests
