2
Introduction
  • An attempt to build computers whose design and
  • operations are modeled on psychology of
    brain.
  • An attempt to design a framework to map some
    functionalities of mind in Robots.
  • An attempt to simulate the process behind some
    functionalities of mind.
  • An attempt to embed cognition in robotics using
    Artificial Neural Network.

3
Features of mind needed in Humanoid Robots
  • Ability to adapt/balance in uncertain
    environment
  • Fast Recognition
  • Fast/Reflex action
  • Distributed/Parallel Computing
  • Robustness

4
Building blocks of Mind
  • Neurons, are the fundamental elements of the
    central nervous system.
  • Neuron is built up of three parts the cell
body, the dendrites and the axon as shown in the
    figure.

5
Mind features
  • Neurons are organized into a very complicated
    intercommunicating network.
  • The connections have varying strength which
allows the influence of a given neuron on one of
its neighbors to be either very strong, very
    weak.
  • Brain function, closely associated with the
    adjustment of connection strengths.
  • Simultaneous cooperative behavior of many simple
    processing units results enormous sophistication
and computational power of the brain.
