Aim of the Project
  • To expand the number of young people
    commencing a career in the engineering and
    manufacturing sector by providing them with a
    high quality programme which attracts those with
    high academic attainment into the sector

Industry
  • Industry will benefit significantly from the
    project through access to a pool of skilled young
    people able to contribute to the success of
    engineering and manufacturing companies in the
    region.
  • Employers will play a key role in the delivery of
    the scholarship programme offering company
    visits, work - based projects and work experience
    placements

  • NVQ 2 Performing Engineering Operations
  • Full time Vocational Level 3 Programme

  • Advanced Manufacturing Techniques

  • Presentation Skills

Student Bursaries
  • 75 per week during the first year
  • 100 per week during second year
  • Two half yearly bonuses of 100

How Can Students Apply For The Scholarship ?
  • Enrol on appropriate full-time level 3
    Engineering programme offered by one of the South
    Yorkshire FE Colleges,
  • Students must complete a scholarship application
    form and meet the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Minimum of 4 or more GCSE A to C (a spread of
    grades A and B will be looked upon favourably).
  • Achieve a 70 pass mark on Key Skills Builder at
    level 2.
  • Obtain a pass on Problem Solving, Dexterity and
    Colour Deficiency exercises
  • Undertake an interview with the Scholarship Team.

Core Learning /Training Requirements
  • NVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations.
  • 5 Key Skills at Level 2.
  • A recognised Level 3 Technical Certificate (eg
    National Diploma) in Engineering that forms part
    of an Advanced Apprenticeship framework.

Additional Learning/ Training
  • Personal Development Residential.
  • Industrial work based Project.
  • Schools Engineering Ambassador.
  • Awareness of Modern Manufacturing Techniques.
  • Work Placement Opportunities.
  • Company Visits.
  • Trade Fairs.

Current Participation 2005/6
  • Currently there are a total of 28 students on
    the Scholarship Programme.
  • 11 on a one year programme.
  • 17 on a 2 year programme.

Future Participation 2006/7
  • There are a further 28 scholarship places
    across South Yorkshire available for September
    2006.
