Title: Fuel System

1
Fuel System
This is the best composite example I could create
to truly demonstrate how the external system is
supposed to look, it is not the system printed in
NATOPS. This will help you visualize it works.

Fuel System
  • Description
  • Main Tank System - 2 interconnected self sealing
crashworthy cells, suction type fuel flow
(reduces fuel spray if a line were to break)
  • Each Tank has a Capacitance type quantity sensing
probe and Low level sensor (lt300 Lbs) Caution
    Light!
  • Left cell contains two high level shutoff floats
    with pre-check valves
  • Right cell feeds APU
  • Two ext tanks crashworthy ballistically
hardened tanks, with self sealing breakaway
valves, single gauge quantity probe, thermister
to signal empty, controlled via FMCP
  • Three methods of refuel
  • Pressure refueling 55psi max
  • Gravity refueling only when rotors are not
spinning and engines are off (rarely used)
  • Helicopter In-Flight Refuel (HIFR) Can be used
when fuel is suspected to be contaminated.
Contains Go-NoGo Canister - the only filter that
will filter water, oil and other particles (PSI
    differential shutoff valve approx. 20psi)
  • During refuel with power, ext tank shutoff
valves close until main tank is full then fill
one at a time. Without power all tanks fill
    randomly
  • Capacity
  • Main Tank 590 Gallons (JP-5 4012 lbs, JP-8
    3953 lbs)
  • External Tanks 2 _at_ 120 lbs each
  • Fuel Dump
  • Controlled via FMCP
  • Both dump valves and pumps activate and drains
fuel out of the right cell at approx. 800lbs/min
    until low level sensor activates
