Import Graphics
  • File gt Place command.
  • Select the graphic to place.
  • Drag to draw a frame for it, or click to import
    at default size.

  • A graphic retains its original size by default.
  • If the frame is smaller than the graphic, the
    graphic appears truncated.

Understanding Color Modes
  • RGB Red, Green, Blue
  • Primarily for on-screen documents
  • CMYK Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black
  • Primarily for print documents
  • Lab
  • Used for spot colors
  • Not common

  • Process colors Colors created with any
    combination of the colors from the color mode
  • Also called full color or 4-color.
  • More expensive.
  • Spot colors Colors where the ink color is
    premixed and then applied as a solid opaque layer
    to the paper at press time
  • Also called 2-color.
  • Less expensive.

Color Matching Systems
  • Ensure accurate color reproduction.
  • Examples PANTONE, TOYO, DIC, HKS.
  • Match a printed book of samples to a number, then
    use that number in InDesign to define a swatch to
    match.

Understand Color Profiles
  • Color profile working space or color space
  • Defines the way InDesign translates numeric
    values to colors.
  • Prevents you from using colors in your document
    that you will not be able to successfully output
    .
  • Default color profile is North America General
    Purpose 2.

Create a Color Swatch
  • Apply a color to an object from the Color
    palette, and then click the New Swatch icon on
    the Swatches palette.
  • Hold down Alt when clicking to open the New Color
    Swatch dialog box.

  • Double-click a color swatch to open its dialog
    box.
  • Change anything about it color mode, type,
    swatch name, etc.

  • Click the Eyedropper tool on the Tools palette.

  • A tint is a lighter version of a color.
  • 100 of a color is the full color.
