23AMATEURISM
- You are NOT ELIGIBLE for participation if you
have ever - Taken pay, or promise of pay, for competing in
your sport - Agreed (orally or in writing) to compete
professionally in your sport - Played on any professional team in your sport
- Used your athletics skill for pay in any form in
your sport
24AMATEURISM
- Prior to collegiate enrollment an individual may
accept prize money based only on his/her place
finish or performance from the sponsor of an open
event, the USOC or appropriate national governing
body and actual and necessary expenses associated
with practice/competition on a professional team.
(Bylaw 12.1.1)
25AMATEURISM
- You are NOT ELIGIBLE if you have ever accepted
money, transportation, or other benefits from an
agent or agreed to have an agent market your
athletics ability or reputation.
26AMATEURISM
- You are NOT ELIGIBLE in ANY sport if, after you
become a student-athlete, you accept pay for
promoting a commercial product or service or
allow your name or picture to be used for
promoting, UNLESS - 1. Reasons are independent of athletic ability
- 2. No reference is made to your involvement in
intercollegiate athletics - 3. Remuneration is commensurate with skill and
experience as a model or performer and is not
based on ability or reputation
27AMATEURISM
- You are NOT ELIGIBLE if, because of your athletic
ability, you were paid for work you did not
perform, were paid at a rate higher than normal,
or were paid based on your reputation, fame, or
personal following.
28SEASONS OF COMPETITION
- If you practice or compete during or after the
1st contest (if youre on the roster on the first
day of competition) - If you play in even one play of a contest against
any outside competition (alumni game, other
schools) scrimmages do not count - If you accept pay based on your performance
- If you compete prior to signing a contract for
participation or entering a pro draft - If competition is funded by a representative of
the institutions athletics interest and is not
open to all

positive - If you test positive by a non-NCAA organization,
you must notify the Director of Athletics and

58PHYSICAL EXAMINATION POLICY
- All student-athletes must complete, and have on
file, a physical examination upon initial
entrance into UW-Eau Claires athletic program. - Following the first year of participation at
UWEC, all athletes are required to go through a
preseason health screening before the start of
the sports season

- There are a number of NCAA-banned substances that
are present in legally available over-the-counter
products. - Just because a product is sold at a health food
store does not mean that it is a safe product for
you to use. - If you test positive for any banned substance
(knowingly or not), you will be ruled ineligible
from participation for 1 year.

- Many fat burners, weight-gain products, and
extra-energy products contain NCAA banned
substances. - Ephedrine (ephadra, ma huang) is one of the most
common hidden banned substances. - It is found in many cold medications
