    internship.
  • 17 CIS majors/minors who have completed an
    internship.
  • Conclusions
  • Students have a very positive attitude toward
    internships and believe that people who are
    important to them would support them pursuing an
    internship, but are not as sure that they have
    control over whether they will be successful in
    completing an internship.
  • Those who have not had an internship show a very
    strong intent to do so.

    the skills they learned were (in rank order)
  • technical/programming skills (82),
  • ability to work in a team (73),
  • professionalism (64),
  • oral communication skills (55),
  • written communication skills (45),
  • problem solving skills (45),
  • and initiative (45).

  • Open-ended questions yielded interesting
    responses.
  • A common theme was that we should make students
    more aware of internships and where to find
    information on them.
  • On outcomes, students reported many varied
    positive experiences, negatives tended to focus
    on scheduling issues, unpleasant tasks, and lack
    of direction.
