Title: Mustang Sally

1
Mustang Sally
  • Mustang Sally" is an RB / straight-forward Blues
song written and first recorded by Mack Rice in
    1965.
  • It gained greater popularity when it was covered
by Wilson Pickett the following year.
  • According to music historian , the song started
as a joke when Della Reese's band leader wanted a
new Ford Mustang. Rice called the early version
"Mustang Mama," but changed the title after
    Aretha Franklin suggested "Mustang Sally.
  • Rice's version made it to 15 on the U.S. RB
charts. Pickett's version made it to 23 in 1966.
  • The song has become a staple of blues bands all
over the world and is played quite often,
becoming to blues what "Stairway to Heaven" is to
    rock.
  • In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked the song 434 on a
list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

2006) was an American RB/Rock and Roll and soul
    singer.
  • Known for his raw, raspy, passionate vocal
delivery, he recorded some of the most incendiary
soul music of the twentieth century.
  • A major figure in the development of Southern
soul music, his recordings between 1963 and 1973
left behind a legacy of some of the deepest,
funkiest soul music ever to emerge from the
    South.
  • The impact of his recordings also resulted in his
1991 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of
    Fame.

The Commitments
  • The Commitments is a 1991 film adaptation of the
novel of the same name by Roddy Doyle, which
tells the story of some unemployed Dubliners who
    form a soul band.
  • It was directed by Alan Parker from a screenplay
adapted by Dick Clement, Ian Le Frenais and Doyle
himself. The film was an international
co-production between companies in Ireland, the
    UK and the United States.
  • The Commitments stars as Jimmy Rabbitte, as
Joey "The Lips" Fagan, and Colm Meaney as Jimmy
Rabbitte Sr. The members of the band are played
by , Angeline Ball, Maria Doyle, , Bronagh
Gallagher, , Glen Hansard, , , and Andrew Strong
    as Deco.
  • The film was very successful at the box office
and introduced a new generation to rhythm and
blues, much as The Blues Brothers had in the
    1980s.
