5These efforts will bring a number of challenges
- There is an enormous amount of data to gather
- Strike an appropriate balance between definitions
that are too tight and those that are too loose - Cultural, social, political variables may affect
data accuracy
Data Collection
- There are multiple definitions of Ideal
- There will be a tendency to think of how to
tweak the current organization rather than
envision a new organization

Project Teams
- Examine and debate tough issues and questions
- Compose models
- Develop methods
Data Collection Volunteers
- Extract data from the organization
- Organize the data
- Present to the project team
Subject Matter Expert Panels
- Evaluate models and definitions
- Identify areas where thinking has been incomplete
or where there are unanswered questions - Provide subject matter expertise
8These groups will be active at various times
during the remainder of the year
Project Teams
- Data Collection team has been formed and is
working - The Vision Team will begin working at the
beginning of September
Data Collection Volunteers
- A Volunteers Orientation Meeting will be
scheduled for the end of August - The collection effort will proceed through the
end of 2003
Subject Matter Expert Panels
- Will be called on individually and in groups
beginning in late August - Panels are not standing groups, but rather
assembled based on need
