The P1 Syllabus
The P1 paper is essentially about issues that
professional accountants will face in their
professional lives. Technical skills are covered
in other papers but PA emphasises that
professional life is a richer landscape than the
merely technical. Conveys an important message
that professional lives are underpinned by
ethical and professional judgments. Encourages
candidates to consider these complex issues as an
essential component of their emergence into the
accounting profession.

How it all fits together
The paper is predominantly about corporate
governance and a range of issues surrounding and
underpinning it. Corporate governance is not a
stand alone or unconnected discipline. All
professional activity, including governance,
rests upon an ethical base. Ethical values and
assumptions underpin all other areas. Risk and
internal control are essential elements of
corporate governance.
