What does diversity mean in the natural world?

• Diversity really means biodiversity-the variety
  of life forms within an environment.
• The more diverse, the better-allows for better
  chances of survival when changes occur within the
  environment.
• In environments with little biodiversity, any
  change can be huge! Why?

Habitat

• Habitat for Humanity-have you heard of it?
• For living organisms, habitat is the place in
  which an organism lives and gets the resources it
  needs to survive.
• Habitat size can vary-for some birds, it could be
  hundreds of square miles-for some plants and
  insects, it can be a few square meters.

Adaptation

• In the natural world, most changes occur slowly
  over time.
• In order for species to survive the change, they
  must adapt to the new environment.
• Changes in a species over time can be called
  adaptation.
• Definition A physical characteristic or
  behavior that allows an organism to adjust to the
  conditions of a particular environment.
