Summary
  • Declining unemployment in the region over the
    last 3 years.
  • Nevertheless there is still a high proportion of
the Working Age Population in receipt of a
    Centrelink allowance.
  • High number of lower skilled job opportunities.
  • A poor attitude to work was identified as the
major reason for job seekers being unsuitable for
    lower skilled jobs.
  • Current demand for lower skilled workers can be
better addressed by increasing the participation
    of target groups.
  • Employment outcomes can be improved by addressing
issues relating to the attitude of applicants and
also through increased access to work experience.
