• Introduction
• Youth in Los Angeles experience multiple
  cultures everyday but dont necessarily
  understand them nor have a basic knowledge about
  their customs, history, and celebrations. In this
  curriculum, my goal is to bring world dance to
  teenagers and raise their global consciousness in
  the multicultural city they reside. Los Angeles
  is a vast urban city where cultures live next to
  each other, but dont interact much and
  unfortunately, there are still many
  misunderstandings between cultures.
  Misinterpretations occur everyday as well
  stereotypes being made up for no reasons, which
  create lots of pressure and conflicts between
  youth. In the course of this curriculum, students
  will study seven movement based or dance form
  from seven areas of the world Yoga, Middle
  Eastern dances, Dances of Guinea (West Africa),
  Ballet, Modern, Old School Hip Hop and New school
  Hip Hop. I decided to introduce these dances in a
  chronological order and will not only teach
  movement but the culture and history behind the
  moves. Each week, students will write a journal
  to reflect on their experience in the classroom.
  By reviewing seven areas of the world, I will
  raise global consciousness to the youth and help
  them understand their identity as well as their
  peers in a safe environment. At the end of the
  course, this literacy will allow them to express
  themselves in new creative ways.
