4 Group Studio Overview
Group Studio application within PALS gives
students, faculty, and employees the ability to
create and manage home pages for special group
activity, such as, clubs, committees, and
organizations. A Group Leader will be
designated for each group to maintain and
moderate the group functions. Typically, a Group
Leader is the person who requests the creation of
the group.
5 Types of Group
- Public Public groups are open for anyone to join
- Restricted Memberships in restricted groups are
subject to certain criteria. For example,
groups designated for only special committees,
an individual must first be accepted as a
member of that organization. - Hidden Hidden groups are not displayed in the
group category index and do not have a guest
view page. Hidden groups are typically used to
publish and discuss sensitive information that
should not be available even in a restricted
group.

- My Group To view groups you have already
joined. - Group Index To look or search for groups to
join. - Group Request Online application form to create
a new group.

8 Group Leader Responsibilities
- Creating and managing the group homepage and all
its contents - Setting up the message board
- Setting up and maintaining the group online
calendar - Activating and deactivating members as necessary
- Assigning privileges to members as delegated
- Specify which applications will be available to
your group members

9 Other Important Group Roles
GROUP LEADER A group member who has the ability
to moderate a group and has permissions for
editing a groups site. GROUP ADMINISTRATOR PALS
member who is responsible for providing
oversight to the group and will be responsible
for approving new groups within the portal.

- SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR
- This individual is responsible for managing the
Luminus Platform System on a ongoing basis. He
or she will be responsible for performing
technical administrative tasks, such as system
configuration, backup and restore, publishing job
management, user management, workflow management
and Oracle database management. - GROUP MEMBER
- Group Members represent the members who have
subscribed to a specific group.
