Camp GISD is a day-camp week of fun!Students

Primary CampsFor Students who have completed
grades one and two by June, 2008. 
  •     Adventures at the Pond
  • Teacher Ms. Peggy OLeary
  • (Offered Both Week 1 Week 2)
  • We will learn about snakes, turtles, fish and
    other creatures of the pond in this camp. Campers
    will make pop-up fish fact books, snake ties,
    story belts, paint turtles and watch tadpoles
    change into frogs. The classroom will become an
    outdoor adventure with stories, math, science,
    and art activities. Be prepared to explore and
    get wet!
  • Arts Crafts Galore
  • Teacher Ms. Nancy Vandivort
  • (Offered Week 2 Only)
  • Come join the fun and be creative! You will make
    your own games, mobiles, animals, candles,
    jewelry, pendants, decorations for your room and
    loads of different types of artwork. Be ready to
    be busy and have fun!
  • Art-Ventures
  • Teacher Ms. April Emerson
  • (Offered Both Week 1 Week 2)
  • Spend the week traveling the world learning about
    different cultures and styles of art. We will
    explore Italy, China, Spain, and the United
    States. Dont spend the summer in Garland, come
    see the world through Art-Ventures!

Primary CampsFor Students who have completed

  • Charlie the Chocolate Factory
  • Teacher Ms. Melony Stephens
  • (Offered Both Week 1 Week 2)
  • Campers will experience Charlie the Chocolate
    Factory in a fun and yummy way! While reading the
    book together, we will make chocolate candy,
    design a candy machine, and create a new candy-
    including designing the wrapper and creating a
    catchy slogan about the candy- and MUCH MORE!!
    (Campers must have completed grade 2)
  • Digging Up For Dinosaurs
  • Teacher Ms. Esther Graham
  • (Offered Both Week 1 Week 2)
  • As we dig up information about dinosaurs,
    campers will have fun making and stuffing giant
    dinosaurs, creating and painting dino-ramas,
    singing dinosaur songs, digging up fossils,
    reading books about dinosaurs, and much more!

Primary Camps For Students who have completed

  • Readers Theatre for Primaries
  • Teacher Ms. Caroline Donald
  • (Offered Both Week 1 and Week 2)
  • Come join the excitement in Readers Theater for
    Primaries! Have fun acting out short skits and
    plays. At the end of the week, we will perform
    for other campers and your parents.
  • Book Cooks
  • Teacher Ms. Donna Wilkerson
  • (Offered Both Week 1 and Week 2)
  • Have you tried Bear Biscuits or Apple Smiles?
    Come join us for some Man-in-the-Moon Salad.
    Im sure our marshmallow spiders will give you a
    fright! We will make these creations using
    literature. Each camper will create their own
    recipe book to share with family and friends.
  • Passport to Ancient Art
  • Teacher Ms. Susan Brown

  • Campers will investigate the world around us as
    they explore ancient cultures, such as the
    Australian aborigines, Navajo, pre-Columbians. We
    will make clay pots, paintings, solar prints as
    they learn about soil, textures, skeletal systems
    and more!

  • Fit kids wants you! Come join us for a week of
    fun as we learn about nutrition, heart health,
    and exercise. Our week will end with a hike.
    See you there!!
  • Secret Agents in ACTION
  • Teacher Ms. Angelyn Cheatham
  • (Offered Both Week 1 Week 2)
  • Campers, come learn all the secrets to being a
    top agent. We will create disguises, secret
    codes and messages, spy tools, and listen to real
    detectives. By the end of the camp, you will be
    as good as Bond.. James Bond!

Intermediate CampsFor students who have
completed grades three and four by June, 2008

Charlie the Chocolate Factory Teacher Ms.
Melony Stevens (Offered Both Week 1 Week
2) Campers come and experience Charlie the
Chocolate Factory in a fun and yummy way! While
reading the book together, we will make chocolate
candy, design a candy machine, and create a new
candy- including designing the wrapper and
creating a catchy slogan about the candy- and
MUCH MORE!! Modern Art Teacher Ms. Laura
Johnston (Offered Week 1 ONLY) Campers in the
Modern Art camp will learn about modern art
movements. We will create original works of art,
including a drawing, a painting, a clay sculpture
and a relief print. Come join the fun as we
delve into art! Secret Agents in
ACTION Teacher Ms. Angelyn Cheatham (Offered
Both Week 1 Week 2) Campers, come learn all
the secrets to being a top agent. We will create
disguises, secret codes and messages, spy tools,
and listen to real detectives. By the end of the
camp, you will be as good as Bond.. James Bond!

  • Legos 1.0
  • Teacher Ms. Judy Gayle
  • (Offered Both Week 1 Week 2)
  • Legos, Legos, Legos! Students will learn the
    basics of building with simple machines using
    Legos. We will make chairs, merry-go-rounds, cars
    and loads of more fun things. This is a
    prerequisite for Legos 2.0.
  • Photo Fun
  • Teacher Ms. Laurie Hermes
  • (Offered Both Week 1 Week 2)
  • Become a photographer in this exciting camp!!!
    Campers will learn the basics of photography,
    take pictures, create, and display their
    wonderful artwork. Camp includes a field trip to
    a photo lab. Campers need to bring a 35mm or
    digital camera with at least 24exp. film.
    (Disposable camera is fine.)
  • Power Volleyball
  • Teacher Ms. Louie Buckman

  • Learn the newest volleyball techniques and
    skills! Also, fun games, new fitness and
    training methods as well as health and nutrition
    tips. JUMP HIGHER.HIT HARDER.

Discover Dallas Teachers Ms. Nancy
Harrell (Offered Week 1 Only) If you like travel
and excitement, take a ride with us! On the bus,
that is! A field trip every day will take you to
different and exciting places throughout the
Dallas area. Put on your walking shoes, pack your
lunch, and be ready to roll! Enrolled campers
will receive a destination itinerary with camp
confirmation. On the Road Again Teachers Ms.
Holly Roberts Ms. Rachel Laurel (Offered Week 2
Only) If you loved Discover Dallas, be prepared
to have more fun exploring the city. New and
exciting locations will be visited as campers
learn more about their home town! Put your
walking shoes back on, pack your lunch, and be
ready to roll again! Enrolled campers will
receive a destination itinerary with camp
confirmation. Theater Camp Theres a BOY in
the GIRLS Bathroom! Teacher Ms. Heather
Amend (Offered Week 1 ONLY) Campers will practice
basic acting skills, audition and perform a short
play based on the book Theres a BOY in the GIRLS
Bathroom! at the end of camp. Come join the
fun!

  • Girls Just Want to Have Fun!
  • Teacher Ms. Mylinda Crowley
  • (Offered Week 1 ONLY)
  • Campers, learn how to plan and throw the perfect
    party. Want to know how it feels to be a pop
    star? Be an interior designer of your own space
    and impress your friends. Join us for a
    fun-filled week with your girlfriends that will
    include girlie crafts, a scavenger hunt, and
    homemade videos. We will have a pajama party (at
    camp) to celebrate the end of the week!
  • Girls Just Want to MORE Have Fun!

  • Do you love clothes? Be creative and design your
    own as you star in our very own fashion show.
    Have you ever wanted to form your own Girl
    Band? Now is your chance. Are your sights set on
    a gold, or silver, or bronze medal? Join is for
    a girls only version of the Olympics. We will
    have a week filled with girls only projects that
    you will be able to take home and use to decorate
    your room. At the end of the week, your parents
    can join us for an afternoon video presentation
    of the weeks activities. Remember NO BOYS
    ALLOWED!!

Junior CampsFor students who have completed
fourth or fifth grades by June, 2008.
  • Legos 2.0
  • Teacher Ms. Christi Washburn
  • (Offered Both Week 1 Week 2)
  • Kick it up a Notch with this advanced Lego
    Robotics Camp. Future 6th graders will design
    and build several programmable Lego robots to
    perform exciting activities. These robots will
    compete in a variety of games and races. (To
    register for this camp, campers must have
    completed 5th grade or have camp teacher
    permission to participate.)
  • Project Runway
  • Teacher Ms. Heather Amend
  • (Offered Week 2 Only)
  • Campers, come learn about fashion design and
    costumes for theatre. Design and put together a
    fashion show for your parents the last day of
    camp. No sewing skills needed.
  • Lights, Camera, Action!
  • Teacher Ms. Heidi Munnerlyn
  • (Offered Both Week 1 Week 2)
  • Show the drama to your mama! Have you ever
    wanted to learn more about acting or just wanted
    to feel more confident in front of a group? Now
    is the time to do just that. We will have fun
    with music, plays, poems, and more. This is your
    chance to act out in class and not get into
    trouble!
