Introduction
  • The growing weight of obese children is getting
    out of hand
  • How man schools require Physical Education
    everyday
  • Why I think that should be done on the number of
    obese children
  • How I think we can make a step forward and get
every school in the United States to have PE
    everyday
  • If I were the teacher how I would carry out the
    way my class participated
  • What other teachers need to consider doing while
    they are teaching their class
  • How parents can help slow the rate of obesity
    down
  • Conclusion

3
Percentage of Obese People in the United States
  • American adults who are 100 or more pounds over a
healthy weight has risen dramatically since 2000,
    a study released
  • About 3 of people, or 6.8 million adults, were
morbidly obese in 2005, up from 2 or 4.2 million
    people in 2000
  • According to government data, about 66 of people
in the USA are now either overweight or obese,
which is defined as 30 or more pounds over a
    healthy weight
  • The percentage of young people who are overweight
has more than tripled since 1980. Among children
and teens aged 6 to 19 years, 16 percent (over 9
    million young people) are overweight.

4
Obesity out of Hand
  • First off I when I go out into the community I am
use to seeing a mix of obese and slim people.
  • When I start to see more obese children
everywhere I go I think that this is what
    Americas future is headed too
  • So that is why I have chosen to do my research
and presentation on the topic that I have chosen

5
What of schools require physical education?
  • Nationwide, the percentage of high school
students enrolled in physical education was 56
    percent in 2003 (71 of 9th graders, 61 of 10th
    graders, 46 of 11th graders, and 40 of 12th
    graders).
  • The percentage of students who attended a daily
physical education class has dropped from 42
percent in 1991 to 28 percent in 2003.
  • The percentage of schools that require physical
education in each grade declines from about 50
percent in grades 1 through 5 to 25 percent in
grade 8, to only 5 percent in grade 12.
  • Eight percent of elementary schools, 6.4 percent
of middle school/junior high schools, and 5.8
percent of senior high schools provide daily
physical education or its equivalent (i.e., 150
minutes per week for elementary schools 225
minutes per week for middle schools/junior high
schools and senior high schools) for the entire
school year for students in all grades in the
    school

6
What I think she be done to cut it down
  • I think that the schools need to require kids to
take physical education everyday, because we
dont wont our kids in the future to have
possible health effects when we can easily
    prevent it.
  • I think it is not only the schools problem to
deal with I believe that the parents need to step
up and play a role and help get their kids on a
    good healthy lifestyle track.
  • Sure you can eat bad every once in a while but
    not everyday.

7
How I think we can take a step forward
  • I believe that we can stop this by making our
    kids do physical activity everyday
  • Feed them better
  • And not let them be lazy, make them get outside
and ride their back or play basketball or some
    type of sport

8
How would I require my class to participate?
  • Play sports that the kids like
  • Make them run a mile and do exercises during
    class
  • Make the kids lift weights at least 2 times a
    week
  • And just teach them about healthy lifestyles

9
How parents can help
  • Parents can help the cause by setting good
    examples
  • Making their kids do something productive
  • Feeding them better food and not as much junk
    food
  • And just giving them their support to know that
they can live a healthy lifestyle

10
Conclusion
  • So in conclusion I think that we can stop the
rise of obesity anymore than it already has if we
just take the right steps and start our kids on
the right track to a healthy lifestyle.
