Honors Geometry Basics

• Honors Geometry is a college-preparatory course
  intended to prepare students for advanced levels
  of math
• Honors Geometry aims to build students critical
  thinking skills
• Honors Geometry includes extensive work with
  construction and geometric proofs
• Students need to earn a B or better each
  semester to be admitted to Honors Algebra 2 with
  Trigonometry
• Geometry is required for high school graduation

Required Supplies

• Geometry Practice Workbook
• 3-Ring binder w/ (5) divider tabs
• Basic supplies pencil, paper, scientific
  calculator (TI-30 for example), protractor
  compass
• Cypress H. S. Student Planner
• Student copy of textbook, Geometry, stays home
• Geometry students are not permitted to use
  graphing calculators at school or home

Class Routine

• Students complete Cornell-style notes at home the
  night before
• Lecture notes are reviewed
• Student demonstration of concepts via response
  boards
• Challenge problems are presented by students for
  extra credit

Grade Break-down

• A 90 - 100
• B 80 - 89
• C 70 - 79
• D 60 - 69
• F Below 60

• Notebooks 2 points per assignment
• Tests 100 points each
• Quizzes 10 points each
• Final Exam 300 points

Notebooks

• Notebooks are completed for each chapter
• Notebooks are due on the day of the chapter test
• Students must print out each chapters notebook
  grade sheet from the website and self-evaluate
  every assignment before submitting their notebook

• Notebooks are divided into 5 sections with
  dividers
• 1. Notes Daily lecture notes completed in
  Cornell style on lined paper
• 2. Practice Practice pages from the Practice
  Workbook
• 3. Homework Homework problems from the
  textbook, Geometry (Completed in Pairs)
• 4. Constructions Student completed
  constructions from each chapter (found on
• school website)
• 5. Standards California Standards for
  Geometry, along with standards practice
  worksheets

Grading Policies

• Notebooks Late notebooks are penalized 50 if
  turned in after the due date (the day of the
  chapter test)
• Notebooks Late notebooks must be turned in
  before the following chapters test to receive
  any credit

Grading Policies

• Tests All students in class on the day of a test
  are required to take the test
• Multiple choice tests will be given for each
  chapter to prepare students for the CST. These
  tests may also include constructions and/or
  proofs.
• Proof and Construction tests will be given about
  every two chapters
• All tests are comprehensive

Grading Policies

• Quizzes There are NO make-up quizzes
• Quizzes The lowest TWO quiz scores are dropped
  at the end of each semester
• There are various quiz formats

Plane and Solid Projects

• Projects will be assigned periodically throughout
  the year
• Projects are intended to expand the scope of
  geometry into real-world applications and/or
  theoretical analysis to enrich the learning
  experience
