INTRODUCTION
  • T.B. is a chronic communicable disease. It
    is one of the biggest health problem of India.
    Prevalence of T.B. in India is 156/1lakh
    population.
  • Apart from the agent and environment some
    social factors like age, sex, lack of education,
  • poverty, lower SES also have their impact.
  • Indian workers loose about 83 work days
    because of disease. This adds the economic burden
    on pt. as well as society.

  • About half of population under 20 years
    of age is infected with M. Tuberculosis which can
    turn out in full blown disease at any moment. So
    even the future is not safe.
  • As TB is an infectious disease,
    misbelieves (coming from past) prevalent in
    society about its fatality and lack of education
    about T.B., the patients are neglected by
    society. This adds psychological stress on pt.
  • Therefore we have selected this study to
    find out the effect of social factors on
    prevalence of T.B. and psychological changes in
    the patients of same disease.

AIMS OBJECTIVES
  • To know socio-demographic profile of TB patients.
  • To know symptoms which bring patients to
    hospital.
  • To find out past history of TB in study group.
  • To know psychological problems amongst TB
    patients.
  • To know perceptions regarding TB cure.
  • To know practices of sputum disposal collection
    by TB patients.

MATERIAL METHOD
  • Study design cross sectional
  • Study group 100 indoor patients of TB hospital,
    Astodia V.S.G.H.
  • Sampling method T.B. patients admitted during
    April 2005-June 2005 were randomly selected
    interviewed personally. Data were collected with
    the help of pre tested pre designed proforma.

    the form of anxiety, depression or loss of
    confidence.
  • 39 patients have fear about their own health.
  • 32 patients have suffered from economic loss.
  • 28 patients feel change in their relationship
    with spouse family members.

  • Most of people(69)believe that the disease is
    completely curable.
  • 11) Sputum disposal
  • 62 of pt. dispose their sputum in collector
    provided by hospital.
  • Rest of pt. dispose their sputum
    indiscriminately.

SUMMARY CONCLUSION
  • The study concluded that,
  • Age-wise distribution of population surveyed
    shows, 28 patients belong to 15-19 years age
    group.
  • Most of the patients (61) under survey, are
    male.
  • Education status of patients is very low. Most of
    them(63) are illiterate.
  • 83 patients under study are married.
  • Occupation pattern shows, major proportion of
    patients(59) are unskilled.
  • 92 patients belong to lower (class 5 according
    to Modified Prasads classification)
    socio-economic class.
  • Fever(26), cough(27) weight loss(21) are the
    main symptoms which bring patients to hospital.
  • 42 of patients have positive past h/o TB.

  • 74 patients suffer from psychological stress, in

RECCOMONDATIONS
  • Patients should be properly guided for sputum
    disposal.
  • Psychological rehabilitation restoration of
    personal dignity confidence.
  • Health education should be given to patients as
    well as their kin.
