Jesus loves us. He makes us happy by keeping
us close to Himself through the Sacrament of Pen
ance.

The Sacrament of Penance
In the Sacrament of Penance, Jesus comes to forg
ive our sins and brings peace with God and wit
h the Church,
which is hurt by our sins.

Find out your sins. Be sorry for your sins. Make
up your mind not to sin again.
Tell your sins to a priest. Do the penance the pr
iest gives you.

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you.

What To Do After Confession
1. Find Out Your Sins
You find out your sins by remembering
the Commandments of God, and asking yourself ho
w you have disobeyed God.
Say the penance the priest has given you.
Thank God for forgiving your sins.
Ask God for the help you need to keep from
offending God.

dishonored or mistreated them by word or deed?Am
I willing to help around the house or must I be

younger siblings?Do I respect others in
authority priests, nuns, police,
old people, baby-sitters?

abilities that others have?Am I thankful to
God and my parents for what they have given me

family, friends and poor people?

2. Being Sorry For Sin.
Before your sins can be forgiven, you must be
sorry for them, because by your sins you have
offended God, your Father,
and because Jesus suffered on the cross for your
sins.

Desire Not To Sin Again My God, I am sorry
for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do
wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned
against You whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance,
to sing no more, and avoid whatever leads me to
sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ, suffered and died
for us. In His Name, my God, have mercy. Amen.

4. Telling Your Sins to the Priest
Go to the Confession You say Bless me, Fa
ther, for I have sinned. It has been. Since
my last confession. These are my sins
Then tell your sins and the number of times comm
itted. When you have finished telling your sins,
you should say For these and all the sins of m
y past, I am truly sorry.
