Test TubesA Contains water
and potato extract, thus the only reaction is
between catechol and catechol oxidase in the
potato extract.B Contains hydroquinone and
potato extract. This shows that as similar
hydroquinone and catechol are in structure,
that hydroquinone shows little reactivity.
This indicates that the active site of
catechol oxidase is specific for catechol not
hydroquinone.C Contains catechol and potato
extract, thus full reactivity. The active
site of catechol oxidase is specific for
catechol.
