Platypus

• The platypus is a funny animal. It has a bill
  like a duck, fur like a dog, webbed feet like a
  frog and lays eggs. The female usually grows to
  about 42cm long and the male grows to about
  50cm long. So the male is bigger.

Habitat

• The Platypus are only found in Australia.
• The Platypus lives in fresh water swamps and
  rivers . They dig burrows in the banks up to 26
  metres long.
• At the end is a sleeping chamber.
• All the entrances to the burrows are always above
  the water level and are well hidden from their
  enemies.

Physical Features.

• A platypus is an egg laying mammal called a
  monotreme. It has a bill, webbed feet and fur. It
  lives in a burrow and lays up to three eggs.

DIET

• The platypus swims down to the bottom where there
  are insects and floats up to the top chewing. The
  fish have to be little so the platypus can eat
  them. It also eats crustaceans such as yabbies.

THREATS

• Predators are animals that try to kill other
  animals, in this case the platypus. The platypus
  has many threats like cats, dogs, eagles and some
  fish. But the platypus has one defence the
  spur. It injects the poison from the spur into
  the enemy.
