Britain ahead of most of Europe on GMOs
Use of GMOs
25 IN FAVOR
49 OPPOSED

• The British public looks slightly favorably on
  GMOs with 49 opposed 25 in favor, according to
  a Eurobarometer survey.
• Only five countries showed less opposition to
  GMOs, e.g., Ireland and Spain. 75 of opposition
  was in four member states, topped by Slovenia
  (82).
• Attitudes towards GMOs are softening. Just 20 of
  Europeans say they are worried about them,
  compared with 24 in 2004 80 are not concerned
  about their use in farming.

• 42 of those use only glyphosate for weed
  control.
• Average use period of Roundup Ready was 4.4
  years.
• 39 of growers reported glyphosate resistant
  weeds.
• Nationwide lt 5 of farmers would reduce use of
  Roundup Ready technology to solve resistance
  problems.
• Southern farmers without resistance problems
  indicate that glyphosate resistance would cost
  them an extra 15-16 per acre for weed control
  and 7-8 yield loss.
• 53 of southern farmers believe new products will
  solve the problem.
