Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust is proud to
announce that it is the first Trust in the UK to
launch a commercial company, Odstock Medical
Limited (OML) which started on the 1st April
2006. This is due to the success of the Odstock
Dropped Foot Stimulator and associated products
which have attracted considerable interest from
overseas, both in Europe and the United
States. From 1st April 2006, Odstock Medical
Limited will be responsible for all the
Functional Electrical Stimulation activities
formerly undertaken by Salisbury Health Care.
This will include clinical services and teaching
as well as the manufacture and marketing of
stimulators. The management and clinicians of
Odstock Medical will remain within the NHS to
ensure that the philosophy of the company remains
dedicated to putting patient care first
Training Over the past ten years we have run
training courses both in the UK and overseas and
have trained over 1350 people. The courses we
offer are Single Channel Dropped Foot, Two
Channel Dropped Foot, Upper Limb Stimulation and
Paediatric (on request).

• Equipment
• We have designed a range of stimulators to meet
  the majority of problems experienced in clinical
  practice. The design of these stimulators has
  been a direct result of our extensive clinical
  experience and has involved considerable input
  from the most important person, the patient. All
  these stimulators are CE marked and in addition
  the ODFS has FDA approval.

Clinical Trials Our extensive clinical experience
and large user data base make The National
Clinical FES Centre the ideal place to undertake
product evaluation and clinical trials. Our
experience of trial design, ethics, and our
ability to be able to take prototype devices
through our ISO quality system to production and
CE marking can considerably speed up the road to
market.
Clinical Services In the UK we have run a FES
service for 13 years and have seen well over
2,000 patients with a wide range of neurological,
and orthopaedic conditions with Stroke and
Multiple Sclerosis being the most common.
Although we have seen significant numbers of
people with Spinal Cord Injuries, Head Injuries,
Cerebral Palsy and Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia.
In addition we have used FES for people with
muscle weakness recovering from orthopaedic
procedures such as hip and knee replacements.
These services consist of single channel
dropped foot correction(ODFS), two channel
walking systems for more complex gait problems,
upper limb stimulation, facial stimulation and
implanted dropped foot (STIMuSTEP) As well as
providing these services ourselves we are happy
to work with you to help you develop your own
services, both in the UK and overseas.
