First Goal Individual Assessment

• Assess current state of musicianship. How?
• Rhythm skills
• Scale reading
• Musicality
• Develop an Improvement Plan
• What needs work the most?
• Implement The Plan and track progress
• Are you growing?
• Are you more skilled?
• Reassess at the end of a period (semester)
• Where are we now?

Second Goal Improve Reading Skills

• Rhythm!
• Use rhythm charts and rhythm bee to build
  counting and rhythm reading skills
• Read more music in class
• Select readable music to rehearse and quickly
  digest
• Work on understanding and playing in key
  signatures
• Scales, arpeggios and the like

Third Goal Academic Improvement

• Organize your effort
• Write down your homework assignments
• Keep track of when assignments are due
• Take excellent notes
• Sit in the front of the room
• Listen to your teacher very carefully
• Get help
• Find another student who understands the material
  and make friends
• Go to your teachers tutorials before and/or
  after school
• Form study groups
• Get together with others in your class to study
  before quizzes and test or simply to get some
  extra group help
